What is the new Plastic Packaging Tax?
Here at ZERO™, a commitment to sustainability underpins all that we do.
You may already be aware of the UK Plastic Packaging Tax – a proposed new tax that is set to come into force from April 2022.
The tax is expected to affect (subject to an exemption):
- UK manufacturers of plastic packaging (and their business customers)
- plastic packaging importers (and their business customers)
- consumers (who buy plastic packaging or goods which are in plastic packaging, in the UK)
‘Plastic packaging’ is regarded as that which is:
- produced in/imported into the UK
- contains less than a minimum of 30% recycled plastic
- predominantly plastic by weight
You can read the policy paper to find out more about the tax, including information about the expected impacts, from a number of perspectives. There is also guidance for businesses.
We believe our range of hand hygiene products can help your business not only reduce its potential tax liability but help to further its commitment to sustainability in the process.
What will the tax aim to achieve and how can ZERO™ help?
This tax is about incentivising businesses to use recycled material in the plastic packaging that’s produced – ultimately so that less plastic ends up in landfills or being incinerated.
For us, this objective of using recycled material is really nothing new. We’re already helping our customers meet this objective, as reflected in our hand hygiene products which contain plastic-free alternatives, to support a more eco-friendly future.
Our solutions
Soap and sanitiser dispenser system and refills
Our ecologically responsible touchless soap and hand sanitiser dispenser system would be a perfect addition to your business, it being suited to a range of business premises, made even more practicable with the help of our dispenser stand options.
Additionally, the dispenser system’s infrared sensor (powered by three AA batteries) will give a minimum of 12 months of average use. This means you may inadvertently be reducing your potential plastic use even more – from any potential plastic packaging used for the batteries.
You’ll find our ethos also applies to our 100% recyclable eco-friendly aluminium dispenser refills. Our refills are contained in aluminium bottles that can be recycled indefinitely.
Our products provide your business with an incredibly simple yet practical way to cut down the quantity of plastic packaging that comes into your business; helping to reduce any potential tax liability under this proposed new tax and helping to create a more sustainable future.
